How to scrap your commercial vehicle
Paperwork
Before 1 June 2019, after agreeing on the quotation to scrap commercial vehicle of your van and lorry, we will need you to come down to our office to sign on our sales agreement and all the required paperwork for LTA. In the absence of of the Owner, a Power of Attorney (POA) is required together with an photocopy of Owner NRIC. Click here for sample.
From 1 June 2019 onwards, LTA have digitize their vehicle transfer and disposal of vehicle, upon agreeing on the quotation we will guide you on the following step to proceed further.
De-registration Of Your Commercial Vehicle with LTA
Once all documents are ready, we will submit the documents for De-registeration. If vehicle owner does not have the time, we will require the Power of Attorney (POA) form and a photocopy of your NRIC in order to proceed. Vehicle owners can also attend the appointment together with us for the De-registration with LTA.
Processing Time
The processing time might take up to 2 weeks depending on the buyers, for export purposes processing time might be longer. Normally we will recommend vehicle owners to start engaging us 1 month prior to the expiry of the vehicle.
Your Vehicle is now de-registered and scrap
Once Land Transport Authority (LTA) have verified and approved the shipping documents for export or from the scrapyard, we will provide you a verification letter to confirm that your vehicle have been officially scrapped.
Balance of COE
Vehicle that is registered under the company, you can simply log into corpass and refund the balance of your coe value. If you need any assistance, we will assist you in getting the remainder of your COE value.
What You Should Know
Failing to submit disposal documents of a de-registered vehicle
Offenders who fail to submit disposal documents as proof that the vehicle has been scrapped, exported, or sent to EPZ for storage, within a month from its de-registration may be prosecuted in Court, and face a maximum Court fine of $2,000 or 3 months' imprisonment. Similarly, first time offenders who are found keeping a de-registered vehicle may be prosecuted in Court, and face a maximum Court fine of $2,000 or 3 months' imprisonment.
Driving/using/allowing usage of a de-registered vehicle
It is an offence to drive, use or keep a de-registered vehicle. A de-registered vehicle must be towed or transported if it needs to be transferred from one location to another. Infringing offenders will be prosecuted in Court, and face a maximum Court fine of $2,000 or 3 months' imprisonment. A de-registered vehicle is also likely to be uninsured. It is a serious offence for anyone to use or permit the use of a vehicle without a valid motor insurance cover. The penalty is a fine of up to $2,000 or imprisonment of up to 3 months or both, and a mandatory disqualification from holding a driving licence for at least 12 months, upon conviction in court.
